Vista Ophthalmic Consulting provides expert technician training and workflow optimization for ophthalmology practices across the United States. Led by a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) and Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS) with nearly twenty years of hands-on clinical experience, we specialize in equipping ophthalmic teams with the skills, structure, and confidence they need to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care. I partner with practices of all sizes; retinal specialists, general ophthalmologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, glaucoma and corneal specialists in private practice or academic institutions, to offer customized on-site and virtual training for the continued development of technicians and ophthalmic photographers.

Vista Ophthalmic Consulting offers a variety of services for ophthalmic assistants, technicians, technologists, and diagnostic photographers. I provide training in two critical areas, which are the backbone of the clinic. The first is the staff that screens the patients, and the second is the staff that performs the diagnostic testing.
For the assistants and technicians, I teach:

For ophthalmic assistants/technicians and photographers who want to brush up on their skills or who are new to diagnostics, I teach:
1. Optical Coherence Tomography of Posterior and Anterior Segments
2. Fluorescein and Indocyanine Green Angiograms
3. Full Field and MF Electroretinograms
4. B-Scan and A-Scan ultrasonography (obtaining proper measurements of lesions using axial, transverse, and longitudinal scanning via the B-Scan method, along with identifying other retinal pathologies, and also obtaining precise axial length measurements for proper IOL selection in preparation for surgery via the A-Scan method.
Understanding the physics of ultrasound, probe positioning, gain settings, and correlation.
5. UBM Ultrasonography (Identifying Iris lesions, IOL Dislocation, Shallow A/C, etc).
6. IOL Master and Lenstar Modalities for Axial Length Measurements and Keratometry Readings.
7. Obtaining Axial Length by Immersion and Contact Technique
8. Confocal Scans of the cornea to identify the type of infection. (Bacterial, Fungal, or Viral)
9. Slit Lamp Photography (Understanding Retro-Illumination, Sclerotic Scatter and Slit Beam Lighting)
10. Pentacam, Topography and Advanced Visual Fields
Career Advancement
I also provide services via Zoom for any staff member who wants to advance their career in ophthalmology by preparing them for the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), and Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS) examinations.
In addition, I evaluate clinic workflow by shadowing staff and identifying bottlenecks that may hinder efficiency. I also assess the strengths and weaknesses of ophthalmic technicians to strategically place them in roles that maximize productivity and enhance overall clinic performance.
